4TH OF JULY FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

I hope that when you read this you, will be a moved as I was. Please go to this site and help any way you can.

Washington DC is the first stop for many of America's returning wounded service members from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Known as "the amputee ward", the orthopedic Ward 57 at WRAMC houses some of the most severely injured patients for weeks or even months.

The painful sacrifice of losing one or more limbs is the new battle these service members and their families now fight.

Operation Ward 57 was started to have a direct way for individuals and companies to show their support and raise funds for these courageous men and women who have given so much. The program is run through pro-football player Kerry Carter's THINK BIG FOUNDATION, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Tax ID: 20-196-2446, in partnership with Atmosphere Artist Management LLC.

This is a grass-roots, volunteer effort. Each person who buys a T-shirt, not only shows their support, but directly contributes to items for the Ward, patients, family members and staff.

Idea: How we can help each other save a dime..

Over the years I have saved a lot of money shopping at Thrift Stores.

I just had an Idea how we can help each other save some money.

If every one who reads this post would click on the comments, and add the name of their favorite Thrift Store and the address of the store. This could be the start of a good resource for all you Dime Savers out there.
Look at this one I just found, its an on line Thrift Store..

Are you one of those Starbucks addicts ?

Are you in one of the city where the company is going to be give you free coffee.

If you love this stuff this is a must read.

Quick Quote

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.

QUICK TIPS TO SPRUCE UP YOUR HOME

Wait for your belongings to come cheaply to you.
This is an important lesson to learn,
Yard sales, Estate Sale, Craig’s List
You just can’t imagine what treasure are to be found.
And the pleasure you get from realizing you still have gas money
After the purchase.
I took my husband, kicking and screaming, to a community yard sale.

We had been in need of 2 storm doors. My husband said, before we left the house, we don’t need someone else junk. I found 2 doors, the price for both was $7.00
We came home, he put up the doors. They have been with us quiet awhile.
Home Depot and Lowes starting price at the time was about $90.00 each
So we saved a lot of dimes that day. (Now he is the one who wants to look at yard sales)
The trick is, even when things are cheap, only buy if the item is truly something you’re looking for.

Have a sale with the things you think are junk because you’re tired of them.
Give someone else a chance to find their treasure.
Paint your furniture!
My daughter is the best at this. She is always finding something that I think is awful,
And next thing I know it’s a thing of beauty.
Be creative with your window treatments
If you are a Grandma like me, take a look around your kids house
They always know what is in.
And go to yard sales as often as you can. I found that there are a lot of people who get rid of some really nice things. One woman’s junk is another woman’s treasure !
I can sew in a straight line on a sewing machine. (Barely)

I have couch pillows I don't like.
I have a $1.00 per yard clearance section at the local Wal-Mart.
If you have an ugly pillow already,
Measure around the perimeter and add 1 inch.
Then cut two pieces of fabric of that size. (pillow size + 1 inch)
Turn the fabric inside out, and place the right sides together.
Sew around three sides of the square/rectangle, using a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
Turn the fabric right side out, and place over said ugly pillow.
Fold in the last edge, pin it closed, and sew with tiny stitches.
If you don't have a pillow already, then go to the next yard sale and find one.
So try this soon and I bet you will Save another dime or two…..

I JUST LOVE THIS

QUICK TIP

Quick Tip:
This is one way I save when we eat out. I always carry a couple single serving size packages of crystal light or green tea, that I bought with coupons from the Sunday paper.
They usually cost me about 20 cents a serving. I order water and mix my own. Most places charge at least $1.50 for a soft drink .
This tip is definitely a dime saver

A Scooter for Granny ?

Is a scooter the answer?

Like many of you am feeling the price of gas. My budget is taking a beating. I’ve been telling my husband I want a scooter. The problem is I am a little passed my prime and not very coordinated. Can a grandmother of 4 learn to ride a scooter ? This question has me surfing the web. I found this article it said A scooter can get 80 miles or more to a gallon. That's going to save me money (RIGHT) . The questions is, how much and how fast? I won’t save as much unless I get rid of the car. I can’t do that, it gets cold ,wet and hot outside.
So would it save me money on perfect days ? I would love to try one out just to see if I could be a Cool Granny.

DO YOU LOVE THE WIZARD OF OZ

These pics are just cool.. It brings back memories from the Sixties you remember before DVD'S?
They played this movie once a year. All of my friends got to stay up late to watch this classic.
I sat on the floor with a popcorn bowl, until the part with the flying monkeys came on. Then I would jump on the sofa next to my mom and hide my eyes . I watched it year after year. The monkeys still scare me. I don't watch it on T V anymore. I'm up with the times I have the DVD . About once a year I become 8 years old for a couple of hours. Thanks http://www.hollywoodbackwash.com/ for making me remember. Maybe today , I'll go back in time.

Some sites to check out

If you don't like the idea of shopping online, Shoplocal.com can help you find deals at stores near you. You can shop by categories and by price range. Just don't expect to find every store in your town (or even some major ones) listed on this site.
Comparison shopping sites
If you really want to score a great buy, this is the way to go. We found deals for a plasma TV on PriceGrabber.com, Shopping.com and Shopzilla that were better than prices listed on bargain shopping sites. What we really like about these price comparison sites is that you get a lot of results for your searches with the range of prices listed, product descriptions, and store and product ratings. The sites also are good places to go if you are looking for gift ideas, especially Shopzilla, which even has a link on the homepage to help you find deals on holiday décor.

If you use Coupons then this is the site for you

I use this site every week. Check your store Flyers, if and item is on sale you will save even more.

Jun 12, 2008 -- Are gas rebate credit cards a deal?
Gas rebate credit cards are hot right now. Is that any surprise? We're all shell-shocked by prices at the pump and the promise of HUGE rebates sounds great. But beware that these offers may only be good for a couple of weeks or months. For example, BP has one heavily advertised offer for a card that gives you 10% back on gas for 2 months. After that, it drops to 5%, which is still not that bad. But Clark doesn't recommend getting a rebate card for any one particular brand of gasoline. Consider this: The price of gas at BP may be, for argument's sake, 10 cents higher per gallon than other brands. So after the rebate drops down, you'd probably be better off having a plain vanilla MasterCard or Visa with rebates. A word to the wise: Purchasing gas from a major oil company will usually cost more than at an independent. You can buy with confidence from indie brands because their gas is regulated by the government just like the majors. In fact, Clark only goes to the off-brands for gasoline because they're so much cheaper
