quick tip to share

Do you cook with a cast-iron skillet? Heat your skillet on low before adding your cooking oil. The food will stick less if the pan is heated first. When you finish cooking, remove food and debris from your pan. Add water between one half inch and one full inch deep. Heat on medium or low for 5 minutes to boil off any remaining food and grease. Discard the water. With a paper towel or cloth, rub cooking oil on the inside of your warm pan so that the entire bottom and sides are coated lightly. Now you're done. Use this simple cleaning process (water, then oil) to clean your pan every time you cook - it seasons your pan and makes it non-stick, the old-fashioned way!

Cheap Cool Treats For Hot Summer Days Repost

With the price of frozen Treats around $4.00 a box.
I think you might want to print out these recipes, They will cost less, they
taste great, and the Kids will even have a great time helping you make them.

Fruit Bars
Stick to one or two kinds of fruit keep them simple and yummy!
Blend 2 cups cut-up summer fruit (strawberries, peaches, watermelon, etc.) in a blender until smooth.
Add 1-2 tablespoons water (or juice), if necessary. Add 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Cover and blend until well mixed.
Pour into molds and freeze until solid.
Pudding pops Grab a pack of those individual puddings that you can stick in a kid’s lunchbox. Carefully slice an opening in the foil lid of the pudding, and insert a wooden popsicle stick (sold at grocers and craft stores.) Freeze and eat! For under a buck for a pack of 4, that’s cheap !

Frozen yogurt bars – These really are as simple A good organic like Yo Baby could be served in the original single-serve container, much like the pudding pops idea (just pop a stick in and freeze

Popsicles – Freezing your kid’s favorite juice into a mold is the easiest way yet to cool off with a treat. I love to sneak in a veggie serving or two by using a juice that contains carrots juice, and it’ll count as a fruit serving, too!

Frozen bananas - I love these! Dip a whole, peeled banana (or half them for smaller kids) into a melted chocolate dip. Roll in crushed or chopped nuts and insert a stick. Place on waxed paper. Freeze and eat! You will want to eat these right away. If you make to many and you won't be using them right away, take the frozen bananas and place them in a freezer bag. Should be good for about a week.

If you have an idea I've missed please click on comments and share.

Born into a broken home and an impoverished life in Jamaica, Hortense (Naomie Harris) longs for a fulfilling life in England; one with a fine house and a doorbell. The door of opportunity swings open, and Hortense is married and on her way to the promised land of post-war Britain. Steadfast dreams are soon tested by hard realities as Hortense and her husband Gilbert (David Oyelowo) face racism and poverty. In the small-minded country, their only saving grace is Queenie (Ruth Wilson, Jane Eyre). But Queenie faces her own disillusionment, married to the kind but dull Bernard (Benedict Cumberbatch, The Last Enemy). Bonded by high hopes and broken dreams, these four lives fuse together in a powerful and hopeful story of love and fulfillment. Small Island is based on the award-winning, bestselling novel by Andrea Levy. (Two episodes; 90 minutes each; TV-MA, S)

Tips to get a sunless tan

I am reposting this because I just had a melanoma removed from my leg last week. No more tanning beds for me. So, how long has it been since you had a skin cancer check? It could save your life.
I will use the Swagbucks I have earned to get my Fake Bake for free.
This was sent to me by another Sun Goddess

1. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! I think this is a pretty-much obvious part of the process by now, but it really WILL make or break your tanning experience! I suggest a sugar-based scrub with some fruit enzymes in it (that way you have both physical (sugar grains) AND chemical exfoliation (from the enzymes)which will penetrate to the deeper layers of your skin);Great products to try: Freeman Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub or Freeman Pomegranate Sugar Scrub

2. Towel off and get out of the bathroom! Let the steam and humidity in there dissipate before you even THINK about starting the actual process. Steam/heat= open pores=streaky, blotchy, uneven results(TRUST ME ON THIS ONE- I took one for the team=)

3. Apply baby oil GEL (much easier to control than regular baby oil- you won't have it dripping all over your body)to the areas that absorb more tanner-ankles,elbows, kneecaps, and wrist joints- then apply the remaining amount to your HANDS and massage up over the wrist joints- this will combat that lovely tell-tale indicator of the self-tan:the dark wrist-ring (until you get it right, rely on cute bracelets=)

4. PUT ON LATEX or Vinyl GLOVES)- this is a MUST-end of story. There just isn't a truly effective way to keep your palms from turning brown without them, even if you stop every 2 minutes to wash your hands. Plus, you're far too likely to drip water on yourself. It isn't worth the hassle, and tan palms are the most obvious sign of a rookie!

5. Apply self tanner from lower body UP... I don't know where the idea about doing it the other way around came- even skinny women often have the tummy skin that creases when bending over completely, and if you do self-tanner on the upper body first, you will have fine lines that are brown and creased as a result

6. Apply in circular motions with an upward movement, massaging well into skin. Be sure to apply less to knee and elbow area, even though you have the baby oil. IF you've self-tanned before, you know that these areas LOVE self-tanner

7. Take off gloves. Apply a little bit more of the baby oil gel to your hands, paying attention especially to the knuckles and wrist area. It should be a thin coating, not gloppy or thick. Use an old towel to dab off any excess gel. Grab a little triangular make-up sponge and put a very small amount of self-tanner on, letting it absorb into the sponge a bit before application. Then LIGHTLY run it over your fingers and hand, being sure to go lightly on wrist area and BLEND BLEND BLEND upwards to above your wrist (this ensures you won't have the wrist-ring effect). 8. Now you are done- Be patient! IF you get dressed too soon, you will end up with streaks and have all that hard work be a waste! This is why I recommend quicker-drying options like the tanning foams- see below =) After your skin feels basically dry to the touch, put on some old clothes and hit the sheets! And get ready to be so happy after you shower in the morning. It will all be worth it once you catch that glimpse of yourself glowing back at you in the mirror! A few tips: - If you have a manicure, apply some vaseline or baby oil gel to the nail so they don't turn brown - It isn't necessary to use scrubs BEFORE EVERY application, especially if you are doing it on consecutive nights- only use the scrubs once or twice a week since they can be rather abrasive. On the other nights, a basic loofah will lift up any dead cells just fine. - USE FAKE BAKE TANNING FOAM- it's $27 at Ulta, but I have used just about everything out there, and it is HANDS-DOWN THE BEST- we used it at the salon I worked at,and I would pay twice that for it (don't tell Fake Bake!). There's a dark brown color guide to it so you aren't blindly piling it on or guessing if it's even (when you shower in the morning the color guide will come off- this is supposed to happen- your brown tan will stay,so don't worry),it's formulated with a patent-pending technology to promote a deeper brownish (READ: NOT ORANGE)tan by working with your individual skin's chemistry so anyone can have natural results, lasts far longer than anything else I've used before, fades uniformly (like an actual tan), and dries so quickly (A HUGE plus, because really, do we want to spend all our free-time doing this? It's hard enough to find sfree-time for most women in the first place)! Apply it before bed, wait 15 minutes, and wa-la you are done!Sleep in some old pajamas- the color guide (not the actual tan) will come off just a little like most of them do, and although it washes out of your clothes,it is better safe than sorry. I can't even tell you how happy I was the first time I woke up and showered. Truly remarkable stuff. However,if you are typically a Jergens-daily moisturizer- hint of tanner type of girl, this may not be your cup of tea, since it really is a noticeable tan. I have relatively fair skin and with 2 applications I have a wonderful deep, natural tan that I only need to maintain by a once weekly application). AND for the record,I DO NOT sell the stuff!Like I said, go to Ulta or the Fake Bake website to get it =)Clarin's makes good tanners as well (according to many clients-I've been using Fake Bake for 3 years and refuse to try anything else) --Moisturize the heck out of your skin in between self-tanner applications. All self tanners do tend to dry the skin out to some degree, and besides, moisturizer helps seal in the color and bind the tanner to the skin, which prolongs your tan-life and means less maitenence applications for you =)
What is your favorite self tanner ? Leave me a comment

Save-a-dime: PBS EPISODE 2 of EMMA

Monday Feb.1,2010 till Mar. 9,2010

I am a football widow today, so I think I will see what Emma is up to...

Save-a-Dime: Real Men Use Coupons Too...

My hubby just got back from Kroger, he went to pick up his super bowl snacks.
So I decided to check out the Kroger ad, I saw they had some things on sale BOGO that I knew I had coupons for and they had some ten for 10 deals I also had coupons for, and my coupons were in the car.
So I got on the cell phone and called him, of course he was already in the store, and he pointed out to me the car was on the far side of the parking lot, but if I have to whine to save some money so be it.
He went to the car got the coupons, and called me back, he didn't think the Gorton's $1.00 off coupons would apply to the large bags that were BOGO. I was sure they would, which would bring this item down from $7.99 a bag to 3.99 a bag and I had a dollar off coupon for each bag making them $2.99 a bag.
So rather that tell him I was right and he was wrong, I suggested that he have a clerk check and see if it applied. (I was right).
He got the rest of his items and went to checkout the items I asked him to pick up came to 38.86
before store promos and coupons. After the promos and coupons the Cost was 14.08........
He told me there was a woman in line who notice how much he saved and commented that men don't usually
use coupons. He let her know his wife told him to use them. (LOL)  But I think he was pleased that he
save over 50% on the items.
And I was grateful he picked up the items for me. So if you haven't taught your husband where you keep the coupons stash in the car, you should.

Save-a-dime:PUBLIX BOGO

I just got back from a coupon run. Publix has the Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix and Syrup on the BOGO deal.
Check your coupon stash for the 'buy 2 Aunt Jemima products get a $1.00 off coupon'. I had five coupons, so I stocked up... Orginal price was 2.69 a box, after all the discounts, that made the pancake mix .85 cents a box. The syrup originally was 3.29 a bottle, with promotion and coupons, I got the syrup for a $1.40 a bottle.

Do you have the coupon for $2.00 off All washing detergent? It is not on sale at Publix, but if you check  the store flyer there is a coupon, buy the All and get a 96 oz bottle of clorox bleach for free. The price of the All was $5.99. I got $2.00 off with my coupon, that made it 3.99.  The 96 oz bottle of bleach would have been $1.99 but it was free. So I spent $3.99 to get both products. That's about $2.00 for each Item. The All is the 3x concentrate and it was the bonus size of 40 loads rather than 32.
Man! the prices of laundry soap is really up this week.
Tide liguid was 7.99 at Kroger today.

It pays to check your coupons.....

Save-a-Dime: Use The Coupon Clippers

I love this web site... I have been ordering coupons from them for about a year now.
Before I found them I would send my husband to Kroger every Sunday for the Newspaper, we always bought 4 because I always wanted to be stocked up on coupons.
The problem with this method is that I had a mountain of coupons that I never used! I gave away as many as
I could, but they were still everywhere.
Then I found The Coupon Clippers, now I order just the ones I know I will use, and stock up on the ones
I use alot.
Have you every been in line and seen the lady in front of you buy 6 or 12 of one item and when she handed the clerk her coupons she had bought the items for little of nothing?
That is because she caught the sale price and probably had double coupons and since she had plenty of coupons she stocked up on her favorite item and the lowest price point.
It works!  I do it all the time !!!!
So check them out.  Just Click on the Promo box on the right side of my blog, check it out, you're going to love them.
